I.E.S. Pedro de Valdivia has been such an incredible school to work at! When I first arrived in Villanueva de la Serena, I didn’t speak a lot of Spanish and had never taught before, but none of that mattered here… everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. All of the staff members, both the ones I worked directly with and the ones I was lucky enough to get to know, were always so friendly and helpful. I have so many fond memories of spending off hours down in the teachers’ lounge working on my Spanish and getting to know everyone. Having never taught before, I was pretty apprehensive but I was always given guidance and the teachers were always there to offer extra help in subjects I wasn’t too knowledgeable in. The residents of Don Benito (the town I lived in) and Villanueva de la Serena (the town I worked in) were all so amazing! Even when there were times we couldn’t communicate very well, they never lost their patience and always went out of their way to try and help. Extremadura is a region in Spain most people don’t know about, and after spending my program there, I cannot understand why… it’s amazing!! In my opinion, it is the most beautiful region in Spain. It is over by Portugal and Africa so you can easily travel to other countries/continents! It is also where a lot of the conquerors were from so there is so much history!! Thanks to BlaBla car, el transportate on is easier than it used to be in this region. I cannot say enough how much I love it here! I highly recommend this school and region!!

El instituto Pedro de Valdivia ha sido un centro increíble para trabajar. Cuando llegué a Villanueva de la Serena no hablaba mucho español y nunca había enseñado antes, pero eso no importó en absoluto…todo el mundo me acogió y se mostraron atentos conmigo. Todos los miembros e la plantilla, tanto aquellos con los que trabajé directamente como los que tuve la suerte de conocer, se mostraron afables y serviciales. Tengo muy buenos recuerdos de las horas en la sala de profesores mejorando mi español y conociendo a todo el mundo. Me preocupaba el hecho de no haber enseñado antes, pero siempre me guiaron y los profesores estuvieron siempre ahí ofreciendo la ayuda que necesitaba en las asignatura que no dominaba. Los habitantes de Don Benito (el pueblo donde viví) y los de Villanueva de la Serena (el pueblo donde trabajé) fueron increíbles. Incluso en los momentos en que los que no podía comunicarme bien, mostraron tener mucha paciencia e hicieron todo lo posible por ayudar. Extremadura es una región que no conoce mucha gente y después de hacer aquí mi curso, no me explico por qué…es sorprendente! En mi opinión, es la región más bonita de España. Está cerca de Portugal y África por lo que se puede viajar fácilmente desde allí a otros países/continentes. También es la cuna de conquistadores y hay mucha historia. Gracias a Bla Bla car , el transporte es más fácil de lo que solía ser en esta región. No puedo expresar lo que aprecio este lugar.
Recomiendo absolutamente este instituto y esta región.
